Amex Gold Card Review UK

The best rewards card I have found out there at the moment for travellers is the Amex Gold Card deal which I love.

Amex Gold Card Review UK

With the Amex Gold Card you can get 20,000 free rewards points for any airline or hotel partner program and two free airport lounge passes. The 20,000 rewards points will get you a free return flight to many European cities from the UK.

I got this card because of the introductory offer of 20,000 rewards points if you spend £2,000 in the first 3 months of membership, the travel insurance coverage, the 2 free airport lounge passes and US$75 hotel credit.

To be eligible for this card you need an income of £18,000 per year or equivalent in other countries and not have had an Amex card in the last six months.

Amex Gold Card Rewards

1 membership point for every £1 spent on the card. The membership points can be used on every major frequent flier program and hotel program.

2 membership points for every £1 spent with Amex Travel.

2 free lounge visits to over 350 airport lounges globally then it costs £15 per lounge visit afterwards. This is worth it since some offer great buffet food, wine or champagne, shower facilities and nice sofa’s for napping on, the same price as buying a decent meal and drink in the airport!

US$75 hotel credit and room upgrades when available at 350 hotels globally such as Hilton, Intercontinental and Sofitel.

10% off Hertz car rental base rates. A one car class upgrade and additional driver fee waived subject to availability.

Amex Gold Card Travel Insurance

The Amex gold card provides great travel insurance on travel purchases like flights and travel related issues. Travel Inconvenience Benefit and Travel Accident Benefit are given.

I once lost a passport while travelling in the US and found that because I had booked the flight with Amex I was able to claim the cost for the replacement temporary passport, which cost US$150 dollars.

If you break a leg on holiday for example and need a cast, the insurance not only covers the medical costs but covers putting you in business class / first class so that you can sit more comfortably on your flight home.

This card is available all over the world and is a great charge card to have in your wallet. Note this is not a credit card and the balance has to be paid in full each month. Because you don’t pay interest until the end of the month as there is normally an annual fee. The card is free the first year, if you don’t cancel there is a charge the following year of £140.

Amex Card Offers

First of all, no spending limit, but you have to pay off the balance each month.

You get access to Amex’s concierge services which are for booking flights, hotels, tickets, restaurants and even delivering gifts.

Access to exclusive upgrades and being able to get tickets to sold out events – such as sporting events, concerts, films and even restaurants. I used this service to go and see Cirque du Soleil – at the Royal Albert Hall one year.

Finally, you get purchase protection on travel and shopping bought with your card.
